What does it mean to have “Public view” and “Private write” discussions?
This means that anyone on the web can view discussions in the channel, but that only people who are invited to the channel are allowed to add discussions to it.
Note that we are in the process of overhauling discussion permissions in a future version that will make this distinction somewhat clearer.
