This survey by a team from Simon Fraser – now with its own mindthegap pub – covers a broad spectrum of tools. The tools evaluated are drawn thoughtfully from a number of other tool lists, but this review was not able to use any one existing list and ended up compiling its own… one useful extension would be separating the tools they looked at from the filters they used in deciding what got full assessment.
The report as a whole was prompted by a desire for:
“a landscape analysis of open source publishing systems, suggest sustainability models that can be adopted to ensure that these systems fully support research communication and provide durable alternatives to complex and costly proprietary services.”
